Slim DC

Available in all of our data centre locations, we offer colocation starting from just a single 1U of space.

LCRDC offer part rack options as not not every application or budget can justify a quarter, half or full sized rack. You can buy spaces from from 1U to 4U and also add to it as time goes on.

Starting from just £75 a month, customers can enjoy low operating costs coupled with high bandwidth and generous power allowances while being able to connect their rack (free of charge) to their business premises, making these racks ideal for off-site applications.

Frequently Asked
Questions

Do I get dual feed power?

We don’t offer dual feeds with these small racks, however, the feed that we do provide you is backed up by UPS and generator to ensure of maximum uptime.  If you require dual feeds, please consider one of our bigger racks.

What is CDR based billing?

If you are a customer of Baltic Broadband, we offer the ability to extend your office network directly into your Slim Rack, free of charge.

This is a great asset for businesses that want to move important devices out of their office, but keep them close.  Acting effectively as a long ethernet cable between your office premises and your rack (known as layer 2), you can extend your network into our data centre and enjoy <2ms latency while retaining good security throughout.

The speed of the free Layer2 network is limited to the size of the Broadband connection that you are currently subscribed to at your premises.

Example : Charlie has a 1Gbps fibre Broadband at his office provided by Baltic Broadband.  He’s had enough of continual power failures, having to accept the security risks and cooling requirements of having on-site servers/devices and needs a solution.

He moves his servers/devices into a 4U Slim Cab at LCRDC, while creating a VLAN over his existing Broadband connection that exits inside his new rack.  Charlie can now connect this to his internal office network so that the servers/devices are still on the same local network as before, however are now off-site inside LCRDC, giving him peace of mind.

As his devices are backed up by UPS, generator and has multiple internet feeds in and out, Charlie can sleep easy knowing that he’s freed-up valuable office floor space without compromising on functionality for his business.

How are these racks cooled?

A high powered fan plate (of 6 fans) is installed in the top 1U section at the top of the rack.  This section is normally used for access when installing deep equipment on the vertical U’s and can be removed at any time and replaced once the work has finished.

The  intelligent fan system fan is powered from within the rack and has Programmable thermostat controller with automated speed control, alarm warnings, and backup memory with an Airflow of 20 to 60 CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute)

Airflow for the cabinet is designed so that cool air from the room enters in the bottom of the rack via the perforated air panel and large side vents which along with the rising heat from customers equipment, is expelled from fans contained within the fan plate.

Do I get 24/7 Access to my rack?

Sorry, we don’t offer 24/7 fob access to Slim racks, although you can get access at anytime during business opening hours, or if you need access outside of these hours, you can book an appointment with our NOC team who can provide remote access at your chosen time.

If you would like your own 24/7 fob access to our Data Centre’s, please consider our Quarter racks.

Can I order more than 1 IP Address?

Every Silm DC rack receives 1 x IPv4 static IP address for use on their equipment.  Additional IP addresses can be added at the additional codes found at https://www.balticbroadband.com/pricing/#static-ip-addressing

What is the Power Limit for each rack?

Each rack is protected by a circuit breaker that is limited to the amount of current passed.  Our racks are split down into 1Amp, 2Amp and 3Amp breakers that will trip when the total current goes over the agreed limit.  This is a hard limit that is there to protect the circuit provided to each rack.

Can we get reverse DNS on our IP Address?

Yes, this is possible, once you have the details, you can contact our support team for this to be setup for you which is typically done within 3 working days.

How many Raspberry Pi's can I get into these racks?

Using the likes of https://community.hubitat.com/t/raspberry-pi-rack-mount/42063 you can get the following:

2U = 12 Raspberry Pi’s,

3U = 24 Raspberry Pi’s

4U  46 Raspberry Pi’s,

How secure are these wall racks and who had access to it?

These racks are mounted in a wall within our data centre and enjoy the usual security that the data centre already has. Racks have electronic locks that are opened using a code.  The locks can operate in 2 modes:

  1. You set a code to lock the rack, then set a new code each time you open it, ideal when several people need access to it
  2. You set a code to lock the rack, and it remains permanent until you change it.  If anyone else needs access to your rack, you’ll have to tell them the code.

Baltic will always have a master code for the electronic lock that is kept secure and allows us to enter the rack if we need to.  This master code is especially useful if a customer locks themselves out of the rack by losing the code.  If we do have to use the master code to open your rack, we will always let you know that we’ve been in your rack.

If you are a customer of Baltic Broadband, we offer the ability to extend your office network directly into your Slim Rack, free of charge.
